The fundraising efforts of two community choirs have helped Assington’s plans to deliver a new children’s play area move a step closer to fruition.
The HappySounds Community Choir, which stages weekly singing groups in Assington and Great Cornard, presented a cheque for £1,250 to the Assington Playground Fund on Monday, having raised the money from a charity concert in September.
Choir leader Nettie Osman told the Free Press: “It was absolutely amazing. We had no idea it would be so successful.
“The tickets sold out in a matter of weeks, once people knew what it was all about.
“It was a wonderful feeling to be able to put something back into the community and know that it was local people who have done it.”
The two choirs currently have 60 members between them, with new people welcome to join.
The Cornard choir, which also works with people with breathing difficulties, gets together at the Stevenson Centre every Monday from 10am, while the Assington group meets in Assington Village Hall every Thursday from 6pm.
