2024 sees the fifth anniversary of HappySounds Community Choir, and we are so proud of this lovely, friendly group of people.
The choir is split into two, one half rehearsing at Assington and one in Sudbury, with a combined membership of around 90 people. Both groups learn the same songs and come together to perform at concerts, making a magnificent sound and raising, on average, a fantastic £2000 per year for charity. We also perform at care homes by special arrangement, and at community events
We welcome new members in January, February, September and October. No audition is needed, and you don’t need to be able to read music, although it’s provided where appropriate. Most songs are taught by ear. All you need is a smile, bags of enthusiasm and a “can-do” attitude.
Our choirs are a fun and friendly place to be, with the benefit of some pro voice tips, as well as free online learning resources and a place to chat in a private Facebook members’ page.
We sing a cappella arrangements and also to rock and pop backing tracks, and we make sure we have time for a breather and a cup of tea and natter halfway through. We generally sing a mixture of popular songs from the last few decades, as well as a little musical theatre, and sing anything from the Beatles to Beyonce. Sessions consist of fun and varied warm ups, with a little vocal technique, and then we work on our harmonies. Occasionally we go "off piste" and pick random songs to all sing along to - and often find great ideas for new songs to do! The choirs operate on a subscription basis, and rehearsals are livestreamed via a private online platform, so you need never miss a session if you can’t attend in person. (You can attend sessions at both Assington and Sudbury if you wish at no extra cost.)
We performed at Sudbury Arts Centre and headlined the Choral night at Bures Music Festival in 2024, and have another big charity fundraiser coming up. Please see the News page for what we’ve been up to recently. If you're interested in joining us, and would like more info please contact Nettie using the contact form on this website.
